I watched Cloud Atlas last night and in the first 5 minutes I wanted to give up because it was just so confusing, the voices were garbled, and there were no subtitles. I gave it a chance anyway even though I continued watching in confusion for the best part of an hour before the first thread of interconnectedness between the many stories being told revealed itself. Apart from seeing the actors appear as a multitude of different characters across time periods and with challenging accents that is. I think it was when Robert Frobisher, the composer of the Cloud Atlas Symphony, was reading the diary of Adam Ewing (dude poisoned on the boat) did the movie start making a bit of sense. A very, very small bit.
Anyway the point of my post was really about an Asian-looking Jim Sturgess (poor plastic surgery job on his single eyelids), whom I found oddly, strangely alluring. I just couldn’t get over how queer he looked, but I couldn’t tear my eyes away. I don’t think it’s the Asian in me.
